Have you ever dreamt of casting off the lines of your current life and starting afresh? How much would you be willing to give up for your new existence?

Basking in the lightness of my newfound freedom, my gut unexpectedly clenched. A moment later, the magnitude of my current paradox washed over me. The consequence of absolute personal autonomy meant I had to assume full responsibility for my life. Indeed, I was free but also alone and had only myself to hold accountable for and to rely upon. Despite lingering anxiety about my immediate future, I was determined not to compromise on my dreams.
The ocean was majestic and mesmerising. Huge rolling towers of grey swell, topped with iridescent turquoise peaks, moved towards and disappeared under the yacht. Occasionally some of these massive waves broke, the white frothing mass contrasting with the dark ocean and the stunning aquamarine tips. Heavy, black clouds were looming low. I felt total respect for the natural force of the sea in those exhilarating, wild and untamed, moments.
We stood in front of each other with the sound of the music filling the air and the bass resonating in my chest. I lifted my gaze, immersing myself in his silky golden-brown eyes, and in this moment all the noise and commotion around us seemed to disappear. Suspended in this profound stillness, my heart fluttered. One look and I felt I had touched the depths of his being, and in the same instant a glimpse of the most sublime human beauty was reflected back to me.
‘Are you ready to dance?’ His husky voice catapulted me back to the dance floor and somewhat dazed I nodded my head.
‘That’s what it feels like to be on the receiving end of such rejection!’
The thought came booming out of nowhere and reverberated through my being. In that instant I felt deeply connected with all people who had endured a similarly traumatic rejection. Compassion arose for all those who had suffered through this before me and for those who would yet follow. I comprehended how profoundly privileged in comparison to many others I was, despite my momentary sorrow and distress. My tears were flowing freely, triggered now not only by the pain for my personal situation, but for all people caught up in similar pain and struggles.
